Lack Of Public Transportation Makes It Difficult To Be Partying In Other Beach Cities // There’s a lot of partying to be had in Los Angeles. It’s just getting to it all that is the trick. L.A. has to be the biggest city in the world with the worst public transportation. You can’t go anywhere, really, that’s out of your own neighborhood. And that’s a shame, because I like to get out of the “South Bay bubble” as we call it, to go play in other parts of L.A. I wish Los Angeles had a better train and public transportation system. What I like about taking a train is that I can do anything I like, alcohol wise, after I arrive. I don’t have to worry about driving. I can go to an event, drink beers, go to any neighboring bars that get a post-event party crowd, or to check out other bars in different places. It’s okay in L.A., I suppose, if you live in Pasadena because you can get to downtown and even Hollywood with relative ease (but how late at night, and how safe!?). From the South Bay Beach Cities of Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach and Redondo [...]

Old Tony’s Fire Chief Starts Inferno Of Bar Hopping // Someone pinch me. I’m having too much fun. My friend Casey has been in town, visiting from Sydney, and I’m taking her around the South Bay Beach Cities. And she’s adapted to them like dolphins to the surf. She’s a natural! She loves the beach, of course, but she also loves the bars. Apparently where she lives, many of the bars are new and upscale. There are not places like Ercoles and Shellback Tavern. What she likes the most is Old Tony’s on the Redondo Beach Pier. And especially their signature drink, the Fire Chief. And the people at Old Tony’s love her, too! I’m sometimes just a spectator, a sideshow. That’s because Casey is a one-person entertainment machine, a lively, lovely lass who commands attention not because of her incredible beauty but because of her more incredible personality. She’s more bubbly than 10 gallons of champagne, more engaging than a dozen wedding proposals. People love her and are attracted to her like moths to a porch light because of her personality. And I’m only too happy to be her tour guide as we cruise the bars of the South [...]

Great Bartender Makes The Blogger Anxious To Return For More Drinks // I’m putting The Reef On The Water in Long Beach on my party bucket list. After seeing it for several years and going past it but never going into it, I finally popped in for a drink. I was at an event at the Queen Mary and quickly tired of paying 8 bucks for a Jack & Diet that was so small and full of ice I consumed it in 30 seconds,. Wince I battled all the L.A. odds and took the train from Manhattan Beach and did not have to drive, I popped into The Reef. And I’m glad I did, and it also goes to show you that if you get an inspiration in life, take it because it can provide you with great rewards. The Reef is a gorgeous restaurant. It’s across a small street with a full view of the water, across the bay from downtown. The walkway into it has a small garden with a small waterfall and a fireplace at the entrance. A lounge area inside has another warming fireplace. It hosts wedding parties all the time and is so huge it [...]

A Blog About Good Food, Dynamic Drinks and One Lively Owner // Sometimes, you just never know where you’ll find a good time. I found one recently and it was in one of the most unusual locations, unusual because I didn’t even know there was a good time to be had in it. But you never go until you go, right!? The location was Moss Landing, CA, a commercial fishing harbor with a small patch of restaurants off the side of U.S. Highway 1 between Monterey and Santa Cruz. I have passed by it dozens of times over the years, and only once had I bothered to stop. And that was just for fairly quick lunch at the most prominent spot off the highway, The Whole Enchilada. Well as it turns out there’s also a place called The Haunt Enchilada, which is behind The Whole Enchilada. Haute is defined as meaning fashionable, and that’s a good way to describe The Haute Enchilada. It has bright colors in the dining room and a large outside area that includes so many buildings it takes a while to figure out which one is the actual restaurant. To define the personality of the owner, [...]
